First Bam-Bam Practice for Mason

So tonight was Mason's first ever Bam-Bam practice. He will be on the Ray's. He looked so darn cute in his little ball cap if I do say so myself! He was very excited to play "baseball" like big brother Hayden this year.
We definitely have some work on our hands though. Mason's whole logic consisted of finding and getting the ball. After batting he would run to first. About halfway to first base he would bee-line over to third base to field his own ball. It was pretty funny. Of course, he wasn't the only kid that was always after the ball. It was like an outfield free for all. Towards the end of practice they were starting to get the hang of things a little more. But, I'm sure by next week they will probably have forgotten everything! : )

Daddy tried to give some coaching advice to little Mason. Ok Dad...I know you're saying something important...but I gotta go get that ball!! What the heck do you mean, run to second?? There's a loose ball on the field!
After practice the coach let the kids take turns spray painting the tee.

Sawyer's Cranio Friend

This past weekend we met with another family in Des Moines whose daughter has also been diagnosed with Craniosynostosis. We met on a site called Cranio Kids. This is an on-line support group for parents whose children have been diagnosed with Craniosynostosis. It has been my savious through Sawyer's journey. Kailan and I quickly connected once we realized we were both located in Des Moines. We started emailing back and forth quite frequently keeping each other updated with our kids. After about 3 months we finally decided it was time to meet. Kailan was kind enough to have our family over to her house for dinner the past Sunday. What a wonderful family! They have a 5 year old son, Isaiah, 2 year old daughter, Eve, and of course Teshura who is 1 month younger than Sawyer. Tesh has Sagittal Craniosynostosis. Even though both babies have Craniosynostosis they each look so different because they have different types. Sawyer has metopic which causes his head to be triangular and have a pointed forehead. Tesh has an elongated head shape. She will be having her surgery in May at the University of Iowa Hospital. Tesh's surgery will be a little less invasive, as she doesn't need the forehead reconstruction like Sawyer.

The kids were so cute and sweet. All of them had so much fun playing together. It was so nice to actually meet in person. This has been such an emotional experience and being able to share it with other Mom's that truly understand is a blessing. Here are some pictures from our visit.

I just love how it looks like Tesh is comforting him!

More Lizard

I just love the things kids say. Mason's favorite toys are his monster trucks. He has this one truck that is called War Wizard. He always pronounces it as More Lizard. He also has Monster Butt (Monster Mutt), Max 'Struction (Maximum Destruction) and Dusa (Medusa). It's so cute. He has this same monster jam video he watches over and over. He can tell you all the names, the drivers names and whether or not they will wreck. I especially love how he will announce them like the announcer on the video.

I remember shortly after Christmas Mason kept asking to play with t-boners. I could not for the life of me figure out what he was talking about. Finally, I asked him to show me what he wanted. He led me over to the tub of Transformers. I said "You want the Transformers?" and he said "Yea, transboners". It was so funny.

My 1st blog attemp!

So, I'm new to this whole blog thing. I'm a mother of three little boys. My life is definitely never boring with these guys. Hayden is 5. Who needs a girl when I have Hayden! He is for sure a very high maintenance child. He is very dramatic and emotional.

Mason is my little red-headed 3 year old. Wow! I know at one point he was my calm child and so mellow and easy going. One day that red-head gene just exploded in him and he has been a handful ever since. He's very defiant and stubborn. He's a little brute too! Sure, he looks sweet...but pictures can be deceiving! : )

Sawyer is my 7.5 month old. He is definitely a momma's boy. Sawyer is the whole reason for me starting a blog. Back in February he was diagnosed with trigonocephaly secondary to metopic craniosynostosis. An infants skull is actually made up of plates that are separated by sutures. When one or more of these sutures close prematurely it causes craniosynostosis. Sawyer has the metopic suture fuse prematurely. He has a ridge running down his forehead, close set eyes and a triangular shaped head. This requires surgery to fix. On July 16, 2010 Sawyer will have an Anterior Cranial Vault Remodel and Frontal Orbital Advancement with Dr Fearon (craniofacial surgeon) and Dr Sacco (neurosurgeon) at the Medical City Hospital in Dallas, TX. I hope to use this blog to keep people updated about Sawyer and his cranio journey.

This is what Sawyer's head shape looks like from the top.

Well, hopefully I will be able to keep current on here! Please visit often and keep Sawyer in your thoughts and prayers in this time leading up to his surgery.
